12 months 12 countries # 9 -> Edinburgh, Scotland

If I was to describe Edinburgh in just two words I would say… omnipresent tartan.

I’ve personally become quite fond of tartan and with heritage being one of the key trends this season, I was looking forward to see some cosy yet stylish outfits that would incorporate such characteristic, national pattern. I have only spent 2 days in Edinburgh and all I can tell you is I haven’t even picked anything printed as by day 2 I was tired of it.

I loved the fact that Lyle & Scott cashmere scarves and some cool items by Pringles of Scotland could be picked up in some totally random shops but I was  amazed with the prices which often excedeed BT2’s! I walked the Royal Mile, went to the Fudge House, castle etc but I also committed a bit of time to charity shops.

Although I haven’t bought anything (time and ‘boy’ constraints 😉 I would gladly consider going back to do some proper rummaging. The number of charity and vintage stores is really high and even the charity stops have great selections of vintage clothes. Some of the stuff was overpriced but I suspect if you moved away from city centre it would be ok.

The weather wasn’t very inviting but people were really friendly and number of coffee shops endless so you could hide from the rain and enjoy something tasty. It’s definitely a city full of character and I will gladly go back (if only for shopping 😉

Below are some various snaps from the weekend; highlight: Stockbridge market. Very cool place, in lovely area, full of tasty food.

Do I fit in? my brollie certainly does 😉
